Discover Lapland Together with Northwind Lapland

Our family experiences are built around one simple idea: no one gets left behind. Parents drive, children ride safely in sleds, and everyone gathers around the same campfire at the end. Small groups, professional local guides and full winter clothing are always included — so your family can focus on what really matters: the moments you’re sharing together in Lapland

From 4 years old children to teenagers and adults, there’s an adventure for you. Glide through snowy forests on a family snowmobile safari, try ice fishing on a frozen lake, meet a reindeer face-to-face, take the lead of your own husky team, discover the wilderness by snowshoeing or forest skiing, or craft a Lappish souvenir by hand. Every experience is designed to spark wonder in the youngest members of the family while staying just as magical for the adults.

Snowmobile Safari Adventures FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

Children from age 4 ride safely in a sled pulled by the guide’s snowmobile, while parents take the handlebars — no experience needed. Whether you choose a gentle 2-hour ride, a longer adventure combined with ice fishing on a frozen lake, or a visit to the spectacular Snow Village, our family snowmobile safaris are designed to make everyone smile. Small groups, hot drinks at the halfway stop, and a local guide who knows the trails inside-out.

Nature Experiences WITH CHILDREN

There’s more than one way to explore Lapland’s winter wilderness. Strap on snowshoes and track animal prints through the snow, glide off the beaten path on wide wilderness skis, or head onto the frozen lake to drill a hole and try ice fishing like the locals have done for centuries. These gentle, accessible activities give children a genuine taste of Arctic nature — and unforgettable memories to bring home.

Meet the Animals — and Craft Your Own Souvenir

No family trip to Lapland is complete without meeting its most iconic residents. Feed a reindeer on a traditional farm and enjoy a gentle sleigh ride through snowy meadows. Take the lead of your own husky team and feel the raw joy of these incredible dogs pulling you through the forest. And back at our Safari House, spend a cosy afternoon crafting your own Lappish souvenir from reindeer leather, antler and Nordic wood — a hands-on workshop the whole family can enjoy together.

FAQ

What is the minimum age for your family experiences?

  • It varies by activity. Family snowmobile safaris and reindeer rides welcome children from age 4, snowshoeing and Northern Lights snowshoe tours from age 6, off-track wilderness skiing from age 8, and ice fishing by foot even accepts children under 4 under parental supervision. Full details are listed on each experience page.

Do you provide warm clothing for the children?

  • Yes! Full winter clothing — overalls, boots, gloves and balaclavas — is included for every participant, adult and child alike. You only need to dress in warm base layers underneath (thermal underwear, a fleece, warm socks).

Are small children safe on a snowmobile safari?

  • Absolutely. On our family snowmobile safaris, children under 13 ride in a comfortable, well-padded sled pulled by the guide’s snowmobile — never on a machine being driven by someone else. Our guides travel at a gentle pace adapted to the youngest participant, and the whole group stays together throughout.

Can we combine several activities during our week?

  • Of course — and we warmly recommend it! Many families mix a snowmobile safari with a husky ride, a reindeer visit and a handicraft workshop during their stay. If you’d like help planning a balanced week, just email us at info@northwindlapland.com and we’ll put together a program for you.

What is the best time of year for a family trip to Lapland?

  • Our winter family experiences run from late November to mid-April, except for the two family friendly snowmobile aventures which are available during xmas and new year week and from mid-February to mid-March.
  • December offers the polar-night atmosphere and festive feel, January–February bring the deepest cold and best Northern Lights chances, and March–April combine longer daylight hours with soft spring snow
