Snowshoeing is the simplest, most rewarding way to explore Lapland’s winter wilderness — no ski experience, no fitness level required. Strapping on a pair of wide snowshoes opens up a world of silent forests, frozen marshlands and gentle snow-covered hills that are completely inaccessible any other way.
Departing directly from our Safari House in the village of Ylläsjärvi, your guide leads the group through the snow-laden boreal forest, up and over small hills, and across the open marshlands that stretch out beneath the Ylläs fells. Along the way, learn to read animal tracks in the snow and hear stories of how villagers used to travel these same routes — on skis, on foot and by reindeer — before the snowmobile changed everything. A midway break with hot berry juice and a snack is a highlight for all ages.
