About North Wind Lapland
Who is North Wind Lapland?
North Wind Lapland is a socially responsible Arctic experience company based in Ylläsjärvi, Finnish Lapland, 35 km from Kittilä International Airport. Founded in 2025 by four local entrepreneurs — including guides with over 20 years of experience in the Ylläs area — we specialise in small-group, authentic experiences led by people born and raised in Ylläsjärvi. We guide in Finnish, English and French. By its articles of association, North Wind Lapland allocates more than 50% of its annual profit to the development of the Ylläsjärvi community.
Where are you located?
Our office is at Tirroniementie 2C, 95980 Ylläsjärvi, Finnish Lapland — in the heart of Ylläsjärvi village, 35 km from Kittilä International Airport, 160 km from Rovaniemi and 35 km from Kolari railway station. We are located at the southern entrance to Pallas-Ylläs Tunturi National Park.
In which languages do you guide?
Most of our experiences are available in Finnish, English and French. Our guides are native or fluent speakers of all three languages.
How big are your groups?
We strictly limit group sizes to keep experiences personal and authentic. Snowmobile safaris have a maximum of 10 adults. All nature experiences — snowshoeing, forest skiing, Northern Lights tours, ice fishing on foot, and cultural experiences — have a maximum of 8 participants. Reindeer and huskies might have more people since groups are combined there.
What makes North Wind Lapland different from other Lapland tour operators?
North Wind Lapland is run entirely by local people from Ylläsjärvi — not a large tour company relocating staff from southern Finland or abroad. Our guides have lived and worked in the area for decades. We cap group sizes at 8–10 people because the guest experience is our top priority, we include winter clothing in all tour prices, and as a legally constituted social enterprise we reinvest over 50% of our profits directly into the Ylläsjärvi community. We currently hold a 5.0-star Google rating across 102 verified guest reviews.
Booking & Cancellation
How do I book an experience with North Wind Lapland?
You can book directly on our website via the booking buttons on each experience page, or contact us by email at info@northwindlapland.com or by phone and WhatsApp at +358 503 121 514. We recommend booking as early as possible — particularly for husky safaris and snowmobile experiences, which fill up quickly during peak weeks.
How far in advance should I book?
For Christmas week, New Year, and the February school holiday period, we strongly recommend booking as early as possible — ideally several months in advance. Husky safaris and snowmobile experiences sell out first due to our small group sizes. If your preferred date is fully booked, it is always worth contacting us directly by email or WhatsApp — we may be able to open additional capacity.
Can I book a private tour just for my group?
Yes. Private tours are available for all experiences. A supplement applies for groups of fewer than 4 people, and for bookings requiring additional services or dedicated transfers outside the standard included transfer zones. Contact us at info@northwindlapland.com or via WhatsApp for a private group quote.
Can a solo traveller book?
Yes. A solo traveller can join an existing shared departure with other participants at the standard per-person price. If there are no other participants on the chosen date, the solo traveller is asked to pay the price for 2 people, as our guides dedicate the full experience to a private session.
What is your cancellation policy?
Our cancellation fees are as follows:
- Cancellation between 15 and 365 days before the experience: 5% fee
- Cancellation between 3 and 14 days before the experience: 50% fee
- Cancellation 2 days or fewer before the experience: 100% fee (no refund)
What Is Included
Is winter clothing included in the tour price?
Yes. Thermal winter clothing — including an insulated jacket and pants (overall for children), winter boots, mittens, and a pair of woolen socks — is always included in every tour price at no extra charge. You do not need to bring or rent specialist Arctic clothing for your experience. Bring a hat and underwear though!
What is the winter clothing rental service for?
The clothing rental (from 41€/person/day) is a separate service designed for guests who want to keep wearing Arctic clothing after their tour — for example, for the rest of their stay in Ylläs — or for guests who are not purchasing any activity with us but still need warm gear. Some guests buy one activity and then rent clothing for the remaining days of their holiday.
Are hot drinks included?
Yes. Hot drinks are included in all experiences except the Snowmobile Safari to the Snowvillage. On longer experiences, a warming break with hot drinks is built into the programme.
Is food included in tour prices?
Food is included in the following longer experiences:
- Ice Fishing by Snowmobile
- Forest Skiing for Adults
- Full-Day Snowmobile Adventure with Lunch
- Snowshoe Hike to Kellostapuli and Gourmet Experience
- Snowshoe and Sausage Grilling in Ylläs National Park
- Day at a Traditional Wilderness Cabin
Are transfers from my accommodation included?
Transfers to and from your accommodation in the Ylläs area are included in all tour prices. Please note: for the Northern Light Dinner at the Top of the Hill, the included transfer covers Ylläsjärvi area accommodation only. Guests staying at Riekko Lodge, Arctic Skylight Lodge or Lapelland Villages are not within the standard included transfer zone — please contact us to arrange a transfer for an additional fee.

Summer Experiences
Do you offer experiences in summer?
Yes. North Wind Lapland operates summer experiences from June to September, taking advantage of the midnight sun and Ylläs's spectacular summer landscape. Our summer programme includes hiking, fishing, artistic and nature workshops, 2 to 5 days overnight trek in the National Park and wilderness cabin experiences. For current summer availability and pricing, visit our summer experiences page or contact us at info@northwindlapland.com.
What is special about Lapland in summer?
Finnish Lapland in June and July offers the extraordinary phenomenon of the midnight sun — the sun stays above the horizon 24 hours a day, bathing the landscape in warm golden light even at midnight. The national park trails around Ylläs are open, wildflowers carpet the fells, and the lakes and rivers are ideal for paddling and fishing. Summer in Ylläs is dramatically quieter than winter, making for an intimate and unhurried experience with very few other tourists. Automn is beautiful with its gold and red colors
