There are few things more exhilarating than stepping out into the Arctic night under a sky alive with Northern Lights.
If the sky is clear, this snowshoe aurora hunt gives you the best possible chance of witnessing the phenomenon — away from village lights, moving quietly through the frozen wilderness with the night sky opening up above you.
We set off after dark on snowshoes — easy to use, no experience needed — across frozen marshlands and through the taiga forest, following open clearings where the view of the sky is widest. Your guide lights a campfire to keep the group warm and shares their knowledge of the aurora, the Arctic night sky — the Milky Way, the constellations, the North Star — and the fascinating stories and beliefs that the Northern Lights have inspired across generations of Lappish and indigenous culture. Hot drinks and marshmallow grilling around the fire complete the evening.
Magical for families and couples alike. Minimum age 6. Maximum 8 participants.
Note: The Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) are a natural atmospheric phenomenon and, as such, cannot be guaranteed on any given night. Their appearance depends on a combination of factors beyond our control, including solar activity, cloud cover, and atmospheric conditions.
At North Wind Lapland, we take you to optimal viewing locations away from light pollution — but nature always has the final word.
No refund or compensation will be offered in the event that the Northern Lights are not visible during your safari. What we do guarantee is an unforgettable Arctic experience, expert guiding, and every effort made on your behalf to chase the lights.
