Overnight Snowmobile Safari in a Wilderness Cabin

About this experience

DEPARTURE ON-REQUEST ONLY, MAX 4 PERSONS

This overnight snowmobile safari is the real Lapland — no shortcuts, no crowds, just you, your snowmobile, and the wilderness. Over two days and one night, you drive your own machine deep into the Arctic backcountry, sleep in an authentic off-grid wilderness cabin you help bring to life, and ride the frozen border river between Finland and Sweden.

This is genuine off-grid living: no running water, no electricity, a wood-heated sauna you fire up yourself, and a night far from any road or light. Fully guided and run in small groups, it’s an adventure for travellers who want Lapland at its wildest — not its most polished.

Itinerary

Day 1 — Into the wilderness (approx. 40–60 km)
Meet at the North Wind Lapland office at 10:00 to collect your cold-weather gear and take part in a full safety and driving briefing before heading out. Along the trail, we stop for a campfire lunch in the open nature — smoked salmon soup is the classic choice, though we’re happy to adapt to your tastes. By afternoon we reach our wilderness cabin, and this is where the real adventure begins: there’s no running water or electricity here (a battery or generator is available), so before we can relax, we heat the cabin, cut a hole in the river ice to fetch water, and get the sauna fire going. Once it’s hot, you’ll have earned every minute of that sauna — followed by dinner and a night’s sleep deep in the Arctic wilderness. Outdoor dry toilet only: this is off-grid living as it really is.

Day 2 — The border river (approx. 80–120 km)
After breakfast at the cabin, we saddle up again and continue toward Kolari, riding along the frozen river that marks the border between Finland and Sweden — a true edge-of-the-map moment. We break for a campfire sausage lunch before making our way back to the office, arriving around 15:00–16:00.
