Somewhere along the Ylläsjoki river, a wilderness log cabin sits in the silence of the boreal forest. There is no noise here except the movement of water, wind through the birch trees and the crackling of a fire. For one full day — or longer, if you choose — it is yours.
The Day at the Wilderness Cabin is North Wind Lapland’s most immersive summer experience. You will hike through old-growth forest to reach the cabin, foraging for wild berries and mushrooms along the way with the help of your guide. You will cast a line in the river for pike, perch or grayling — and with any luck, cook what you catch over an open fire.
As the afternoon settles, the wood-heated sauna reaches its full temperature. You heat, you cool in the river, you heat again — the oldest Finnish ritual, performed exactly as it has been for centuries, in the place it was designed for.
Dinner is prepared at the cabin, made from local and seasonal ingredients. The light stays golden and warm all evening.
For those who want to stay, an overnight option is available for up to 4 guests.
