Life in Ylläs

Experience the serene beauty of Ylläsjärvi, a charming village nestled in the wilderness of Lapland. Our “Life in Ylläs” package invites you to see the local way of life, explore the history and modern day life of this small northern village.

We’ll taste some typical Lappish nature products and learn how everyday life looks like here above the Arctic Circle.

CULTURAL DAY WITH VISIT OF THE LOCAL LIFE MUSEUM AND SMOKED-FISH TASTING

Learn about the local way of life, the traditional way and the importance of fishing in the local culture. After a 15-minute scenic car transfer to the neighboring village of Äkäslompolo, we will visit the nature center and the museum about the lifestyle in Lapland. 

Then we will head to the local fish store where we will taste 3 different smoked fishes (arctic char, whitefish, and salmon), watch live the process of smoking arctic char, and watch videos about the local, artisanal smokery.
